The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
