Seamer Gus Atkinson Adds to the English team's Injury Worries.

'Significant concern' for England after Atkinson is forced off with a hamstring injury.

The pace bowler added to England's injury problems when he left the field early on day two in the Melbourne Test against Australia.

The right-arm seamer felt a problem in his hamstring after the final ball of the fourth over during the morning session.

The touring camp stated Atkinson felt some "soreness" and required time on the sidelines in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".

The final Test of the series at the SCG gets underway on Sunday, 4 January.

The visitors have already lost fast bowlers one seamer due to knee trouble and another paceman because of a side injury on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was called up to provide backup.

Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, claiming a mere three wickets.

He was left out from the previous Test, before being recalled for the Boxing Day match as Archer's replacement.

Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, bagging two scalps with the ball, and scoring 28 runs with the bat being one of only three English batsmen who passed ten runs.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he resumed the next day and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, towards the conclusion of the fifth over, he sent down a variation to Travis Head and promptly felt at his leg.

Atkinson was recalled for the Boxing Day Test following his omission of the third.
