President Trump Welcomes Families of Shot National Guard Members to the White House

President Trump announced on the weekend that he has invited the family of a Guard member killed last week to visit the White House.

He noted that he spoke to her family and they were “heartbroken”.

Background on the Tragic Incident

Specialist Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.

Vigils across West Virginia have been held in their memory.

Presidential Offer

The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both members of the state Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump informed the press. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”

Community Support

Mourners gathered over the past few days at the high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.

Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to aid policing efforts in the capital.

Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom

“She was the individual that educators hoped for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that inspired people around her,” Hankins, the head of her former high school, told the media. “She was kind, compassionate and always ready to support those in need.”

Funeral details for Beckstrom are still being arranged.

Judicial Steps and Policy Changes

Law enforcement have accused a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.

The tragedy prompted the administration to halt asylum processing and cease granting entry permits to possessors of Afghan passports.

Condition of the Airman

Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, per the Associated Press.

He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader Morrisey mentioned on television.

Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on a news show that she also intended to visit Wolfe’s family.

Memory of Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, per the state guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” he told the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
