Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area close to the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is not yet known and the American officials has not commented.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - reported they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

IRGC Statement

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the government.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses dealt with the missiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," it added.

Officials reported debris fell on a residential area in the capital, causing some material damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
