A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.

It might not have been at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the county's top official had her own presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The animal, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its top term for the year.

A Future Secured

Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the character of Miami: joyful, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
